It’s not ALL about the big band on my new album. Along with that great ensemble, there are two duo tracks featuring bassist Steve Charlson and pianist Gary Walters with myself.

Check out the first of those duets, featuring Mr. Charlson on ‘I Can’t Give You Anything But Love’.

Today I’m happy to share with you ‘Alright, Okay, You Win’, the final track on my new album coming out on Saturday night.

If you’re in a hurry, I suggest you skip ahead to the last minute of this song. With Rezek’s horns and Tina Haase Findlay’s voice accompanying me through the last chorus, it’s a very exciting sound.

This week, I’ll be posting a different song from my new album leading up the big release concert on Saturday night at the Des Moines Social Club.
Today, check out ‘Left Behind’. I wrote this song several years ago and was so happy to finally get a good studio recording of the big band arrangement done by Dave Rezek. My favorite part of the track is the entrance of the big band just after the a cappella introduction verse. Great piece of work by Mr. Rezek, in my opinion.
Give it a listen and get your tickets today!

It’s The Most Wonderful Band Of Them All

November 26, 2014 | By |

Reason number one to get your tickets to ‘Home for the Holidays’: this band.

Yes, I do my best to sound good and look okay on the stage, and I’m pretty happy with the results each year, but I would be nothing without these guys. I’m always lucky to work with supremely talented musicians, and this year is no exception. We have a killing rhythm section joined by a horn section that might just tear the house apart.

The group includes musicians who have played all over the world with artists ranging from Rosemary Clooney to Christian McBride to Clark Terry. Check out the lineup and then get your tickets at so you can hear this band celebrate the season.

Piano: Tanner Taylor

Bass: Steve Charlson

Drums: Benjamin Poppen

Trumpet: Dave Kobberdahl

Alto Sax: Dr. Damani Phillips

Bari Sax: Mike Wilson

‘Home for the Holidays’: Five Years Gone By!

November 25, 2014 | By |

As we get closer to this year’s concert (3 weeks away, by the way, December 19th-21st – tickets at … etc etc), it’s crazy to me to think that we’ve been down this road 5 times now… 5 great productions with their own respective memories. I’m going to try and relate a few great moments to you from each show as the days get closer… from photo shoots on top of parking garages to near-death experiences driving to rehearsal, there have been some crazy moments! For now, though, take a look at these posters Liz Lawson & Andy Cusack have put together through the years.

Bringing Back a Classic

Tickets available at

Happy holidays, my friends! Yes, believe it or not, the season is upon us, and I for one am glad to hear it! This is always one of my favorite events of the year, and I suspect this time around won’t be any different.

I’ll be joined by a fantastic band, featuring the likes of Tanner Taylor, Steve Charlson, and more, and we’ll be playing the arrangements by Dave Rezek that you have come to know & love.

We’ve done the show in the Playhouse, the Temple Theater, the DM Social Club, Wooly’s, and I am very happy this year to be taking ‘Home for the Holidays’ to the Turner Jazz Center at Drake University. It’s a beautiful, intimate room with floor-to-ceiling windows that will look out beautifully on the Christmas-y landscape.

The room is beautiful, but it is small, people. Get your tickets while you can! I plan on selling this show out pretty quickly. Seating will be available with chairs at tables and everyone will have a comfortable spot. Drinks will be available in the room for purchase. It will be a grand time. I’ll see you there!

Tickets Available at

Friday, December 19th – 8pm
Saturday, December 20th – 8pm
Sunday, December 21st – 3pm
